John Joel Joseph, a key suspect in the assassination of former President Jovenel Moise, was charged in a U.S. court Monday with conspiracy to kill or kidnap outside the United States.
In a statement the Justice department said former senator John Joel Joseph made his first US court appearance in Miami on Monday afternoon. Joseph was extradited to the US from Jamaica on Friday.
Joseph, 51, is the third person charged in the US in relation to what authorities say was a wide-reaching plot involving at least 20 Colombian citizens and several U.S Citizens that ultimately led to the killing of Jovenel Moise.
John Joel Joseph was also charged with "providing material support to someone trying to commit that crime resulting in death," Judge Lauren Louis said.
