State Department warns travelers to reconsider Haiti

The U.S. State Department has designated Haiti as a Level 3 status for travelers, signifying travel to the country should be reconsidered.
The travel advisory asks for travel to be reconsidered due to crime, civil unrest, and kidnapping attempts.
According to the State Department, violent crimes such as armed robbery is common and incidents of kidnapping have taken place.
The alert states travelers are sometimes targeted, followed, and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving the Port-au-Prince international airport.
With emergency responses to incidents "limited or non-existent," travelers are being warned of the current threats they could face.
Even U.S. Embassy workers in Port-au-Prince have been advised to using public transportation, driving in the city at night or traveling anywhere during the overnight hours due to risks.
