The U.S. State Department updated it’s Level 3 Travel Advisory for the country of Haiti, on January 18, 2019.
This ‘Reconsider Travel’ Advisory says ‘there are currently unpredictable violence and sporadic demonstrations in Port-au-Prince and elsewhere in Haiti.’
The U.S. government said ‘it has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in some areas of Haiti.’

on January 21st a local news website reported 24 emergency cases were identified by the health authorities. Of this total, 4 cases were gunshot wounds,
the university hospital staff declared a labor strike related to previous security risks for staff and patients, on January 22nd.
Additionally, the US Embassy prohibits its personnel from:
Visiting establishments after dark without secure, on-site parking;
Using any kind of public transportation or taxis;
Visiting banks and using ATMs;
Driving outside of Port-au-Prince at night;
Traveling anywhere between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.; and
Visiting certain parts of the city at any time without prior approval and special security measures in place.
Moreover, the State Department said on January 18, 2019:
Travelers are sometimes targeted, followed, and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving the Port-au-Prince international airport;
Violent crime, protests, tire burning, and road blockages are common, frequent and unpredictable.
Previously, during March 2018, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated it travel guidance when visiting Haiti.
The CDC says Zika is an ongoing risk in Haiti. And, a Zika infection during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects.
Therefore, pregnant women should not travel to Haiti.
The CDC says to ensure you are up-to-date on several Routine Vaccines before visiting Haiti. Additionally, the CDC suggests these travel vaccinations:
Cholera
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Malaria
Rabies
Typhoid
Yellow Fever
