A court ruling on Saturday reinstated Temporary Protective Status for Haitians until February of next year.
The decision means that more than half a million Haitian nationals with TPS, with several who live and work, will be allowed to stay in the U.S. with work permits until at least February 3rd, 2026.
The Department of Homeland Security had previously determined that Haiti no longer meets the conditions for its designation for Temporary Protected Status and slated the program to end in September of this year.
But, a New York judge blocked the Trump administration from ending the program early.
Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, called it a court victory for Haitians.
