Kanye West landed in Haiti Friday on a surprise visit, the American rap star touched down at the Hugo Chávez International Airport in Cap-Haïtien shortly after 10am was greeted by two local women wearing traditional Haitian dress and carrying bouquets of local flowers.
President Jovenel Moïse traveled from the capital Port-au-Prince to meet with West, the Miami Herald reported.
Haiti’s Tourism Ministry said that West was traveling to visit a plant breeding center in the northwest being launched by the president, the port of Labadee and Tortuga Island.
Tennis star Naomi Osaka was also in the airport and was seen chatting to West.
“I'm with famous American rapper Kanye West who just arrived in the country to visit Labadee and l'Ile de la Tortue. I wish him a great visit," Jovenel Moise tweeted.
Video footage of his arrival showed the Grammy-award winner accepting the bouquets before being steered into a meeting room nearby.
Later videos showed Moïse's arrival as he and West talked to Osaka in the diplomatic lounge before leaving together in a car. West appeared in good spirits as he laughed and joked with the president and the tennis player.
Accompanied by Moïse, West boarded a boat at Labadee, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’s temporarily closed private destination, to head out along the coastline.
