President Jovenel Moïse and other high-ranking officials on Thursday received the first China´s medical supplies to fight the Covid-19 pandemic at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport.
It is about 50,000 masks KN95 for health care staffer, 200,000 surgical masks, 100 artificial respirators or Ventilator and accessories, 500 full beds, as well as over 700,000 protective glasses, Marie Greta Roy Clement, minister of Public Health, said today.
This supply of medical materials and equipment is a first medical supply shipment requested by Haiti worth 19 million dollars. Local authorities stated the remaining supply should arrive in the country in mid-May. President Moïse announced that on the recommendation of the scientific commission to respond to the pandemic, the government ordered the purchase of 2,500 cylinders and nine oxygen generators. Similarly, local factories will manufacture as many as 50,000 personal protective equipment, for which Haiti will pay 144 million gourdes (about 1.5 million dollars), the president said.
