A protest was held at Brooklyn College on Tuesday against Ambassador Kenneth Merten, the Haiti Special Coordinator as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
College by its Haitian Studies Institute to speak on a panel.
The protesters are part of an organization called Komokoda, or the Committee to Mobilize Against Dictatorship in Haiti.
They say Merten is responsible for the mismanagement of U.S. aid funds meant to help the island nation after the devastating earthquake there in 2010.
They add that the college asking Merten to be part of the panel is a slap in the face to Brooklyn's Haitian
community since there was no one on the panel who truly stood for their interests.
The panel, however, went on as planned.
John Eddy Saint Paul, director of the Haitian Studies Institute, says it's important to understand different perspectives on issues.
