President Jovenel Moise presided over a ceremony on Wednesday to restore the Haitian army with the graduation of 15 officers and 248 soldiers.
The ceremony took place at the Anacaona base in the commune of Léogane on the 228th anniversary of the Bois Caiman vodou ceremony.
The battalion of soldiers began training on January 2019 with the Mexican army.
According to the outgoing Minister of Defense, Dr. Enold Joseph, the restoration of the Haitian army is not a return to the old military.
"the new armed forces will support the population and participate in the development of the country, he said."
