Michel-Ange Gédéon attends Police Summit in New York


The director general of the Haitian Police, Michel-Ange Gédéon has participated in the 2nd UN Chiefs of Police Summit in New York from 20 -21 June 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters.

The event considered how to support the integral work of UN Police in fostering peaceful and inclusive societies by protecting communities and strengthening police services around the world.

The Summit provided an opportunity to formulate a response to transnational threats and risks through a strengthened UN Police.

UN Police missions are also involved in supporting capacity building in conflict affected areas.

Building inclusive and representative police forces that promotes gender inclusion, that ensures that peace building and peacekeeping focus on women and children especially requires appropriately trained officials.

Currently 11,000 police officers, including over 1,000 women, serve within the UN special political and peacekeeping missions.
