Donald Trump To Nominate A New Ambassador To Haiti

President Donald Trump plans to nominate a career diplomat from Maryland to be the next ambassador to Haiti, the White House announced on Thursday.

Michele Jeanne Sison currently serves as deputy permanent representative at the U.S. mission to the United Nations, a role she's held since 2014.

Sison previously served as ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives (2012 to 2014), Lebanon (2008 to 2010) and the United Arab Emirates (2004 to 2008).

She has served as assistant chief of mission in Baghdad (2011 to 2012) and a host of other State Department and embassy roles in the Middle East, India and Africa, as well as Haiti.

Sison, a graduate of Wellesley College and the London School of Economics, speaks fluent French, basic Haitian Creole and Arabic.
